Romano-Germanic Spatha "Zanjir" and Serpent pattern.
This complex pattern welded blade is made up of a central Serpentine core bordered on either side by a convoluted ribbon of steel. This pattern has appeared in many cultures over the centuries and is referred to as "zanjir" in Turkish. The Zanjir pattern is formed from a bar of steel and pure iron that was initially over 2 meters (6 feet) long before being folded back on itself repeatedly and forge welded into a solid bar. The edges of this blade are two bars of 700 layer laminated steel, brought together with a fish-mouth weld to form the blades tip.
