Romano-Germanic Spatha, Three bar twist into Serpent.
This is a large blade with a lot of presence, its construction is heavily inspired by a sword found in Vehmaa, Finland that would have been owned by a high status individual of great wealth and power.
The pattern on this blade is formed from three central core bars, each alternating between twisted and straight sections along the first 40% of the blades length. These twisted sections have been differentially ground to reveal chevron (stripe) patterns on one side of the blade, and star patterns on the other side. Around halfway along the blade, the twisted bars on either side fade out into a dark background, leaving the central bar to undulate along the remaining length of the sword. The edges of this blade are formed from 700 layers of laminated steel, bought together at the tip with a fish mouth weld.
This is by far the most complex blade I have constructed and is formed up from 14 seperate components, all forge welded together into one single piece of steel.
I am happy to supply this piece as a bare blade or to discuss crafting hilt fittings and/or craft a scabbard to your specifications, please feel free to contact me.
