Roman "Mainz" gladius blade, 4 bar pattern weld.
This blade is loosely based on a gladius blade found in Mainz, Germany. This style of gladius blade is charactarised by it's slightly waisted appearance with a flared profile towards the hilt and the tip.
This blade is forged from 4 bars, each comprising of 13 layers of laminated steel. These bars are alternatively twisted clockwise and anti-clockwise to create a chevron pattern. The edge bars are 720 layers of laminated steel, terminating in a fish mouth weld at the tip of the blade.
This piece is available as a bare blade, alternatively I'm happy to craft suitable hilt and/or scabbard fittings to your specification, please feel free to contact me to discuss this.
Please allow up to 4 weeks after ordering for me to give this blade it's final polish and etch. This blade will arrive sharp unless otherwise requested.
